About Lily

I’m a photographer and mother living and working on Bundjalung country, in Northern NSW.

Words fail me when I attempt to describe the magnitude of mothering, of love, longing, life and death. Of childhood and growing old.

It was the shock and awe of my transition to motherhood that drove me to portraiture, and my work tends to revolve around mothers and children, but everything ripples out from birth, and I’ve had the honour of documenting weddings and lovers, ceremonies, celebrations and rites of passage, and loss.

All photographs are memento mori. To take a photograph is to participate in another person’s (or thing’s) mortality, vulnerability, mutability. Precisely by slicing out this moment and freezing it, all photographs testify to time’s relentless melt
